Teaching in a Title 1 school where 92% of the students are receiving free and reduced lunch, it behooves us as teachers to find creative ways to motivate and inspire children coming from tough home circumstances. Reading has become the core of all core subjects; success in all other content areas requires strong reading and comprehension skills. Materials that I have requested such as the stools, bean bag chairs and floor cushions are to ensure that students have somewhere in the class that is comfortable for them to read. They will also be rewarded with the assortment of candies for making improvements and great choices. Recess will also become a more exciting reward with new equipment like, jump ropes, hoolah hoops and balls. I have also ordered a few bins so these supplies can be neatly stored.
