My first graders need flexible seating options during small group instruction. Flexible seating transforms the classroom environment from teacher-centered to student-centered. Flexible seating will not only motivate students to complete their assignments, but will provide an outlet for restless learners. It encourages movement by allowing students to bounce, turn, wobble, or kneel. Students will also have the opportunity to choose their seating type and classroom location, making them feel like they are part of the classroom community. During math and reading blocks, students will be able to choose from a variety of seating options including wobble chairs, stability balls, and soft bean bag chairs. These various seating options will encourage collaboration with peers and make the classroom environment more comfortable for learning, encouraging students to look forward to school each day!
