My students are going to enter their second grade classroom at drastically different reading levels. Some students will be on grade level or above, digging into early chapter books. Other students will be working on phonics and putting sounds together to read first grade level books. I want to provide book choices that will excite my students, regardless of their circumstance. I hope my kids learn, laugh, and share with each other while they are reading in my classroom, and when they bring our books home. Students will use these texts during our word work center, they will read a book of their choice with a partner each day (for fluency practice), and I will use some of them for small group guided reading. All of our second graders will receive a book baggy so they can share our classroom books with their families and friends at home.
