I teach 7th grade Social Studies in an Expeditionary Learning School. Our students learn Science & Social Studies content (along with skills in other areas) by participating in "learning expeditions". These are in-depth studies that provide authentic learning experiences that many of our inner-city students would not otherwise experience. We try to maximize opportunities for our students to engage in experiential learning...learning from experts in the field & outside the walls of our class as much as possible. This way they not only learn content, but also learn process & get exposed to various career paths & experiences outside of their norm.
