In my experience, when you ask a fifth grade student what their favorite subject is...they do not say "reading". I want to change that this year. By giving students access to their own copy of Storyworks, students have experiences with a variety of genres that they can get interested in and be excited about. It is my goal this year that every student leaving my classroom being able to say that they enjoyed reading something. Whether it is a poem, a nonfiction article about the Gold Rush, a play about the American Revolution or a nonfiction article about hyenas, it's my goal to set them up for success by learning to love reading again. This is the only way we can truly realize that reading is an avenue to learning!
