My second grade students love to read. They are students who use books as windows to the world. Any donations to my class would change the lives of the students who read them. My student would be able to read abut topics they have not been exposed to before. We do not teach science as classroom teachers. This area is seriously lacking. By reading books on the solar system and natural sciences and other topics they would expand their horizons more than I could without informational texts. I would use the books for guided reading. I would use them for independent reading. I would also use the books to extend the thinking of my students who are reading above grade level. The selections that I have chosen are informational science based texts. My students are interested in planets and the weather. They need to know about different sports. I also believe that they should read magazines as another type of literature.
