Math learning centers are a great way to engage students with hands on learning. Early learning students require concrete materials to help them understand abstract ideas. For example, they need counting bears and counters to see and be able to touch each item as they count. It helps them to see and understand that there are actually 5 bears or the concept that 5 and 1 more makes 6. By using the materials and working with others it helps them to problem solve and use critical thinking skills. This gives students a way to become accountable for their learning and have a way to self check their successes. The supplies will give my students more practice with hands on manipulatives and visuals to help with understanding mathematical concepts. The hands on learning centers will be used during meet with the teacher time and independent work time.
