I want my students to love reading as much as I love reading! I want them to find a book that they love so much they don't want to put it down. I want them to be excited for one book to end and another to begin. Giving them time to read books they are interested in independently is one way I hope to spark this excitement and love of books. Students being able to pick a book they want is giving them student choice and giving them the tools they need to build a strong foundation for reading. Reading to them from books they may have never picked on their own is another. Daily reading helps foster a love of reading, and being able to read a story fluently with expression and excitement helps draw the students into the story. I love when my students ask me to read to them, when they ask me to keep reading because they are so engaged in the story that they don't want it to end!
