Flexible seating options allow kids to move while they work. A body in motion means a brain more focused. A focused student is a learning student. We call it POWER seating in our class. It gives my students the power to choose. I have witnessed this with students who have brought balance cushions and other movement type seating from home or an OT. It works! The research is out there - teachers just need the funds to move (pun intended) forward! Teachers have so many barriers in education. Designing our classroom for the best possible working environment shouldn't be one of them. A room that is inviting - full of movement - just like kids, creates an environment where learning is natural and organic.
