I have my students for 84 minutes a day, and as an 11 or 12 year old, sitting in a desk for that long a period of time can very tiring and boring. I want to give my students the ability to get out of their seats and move around the room. One way I can do that is with interactive read-alouds. I read aloud to my students almost every day, and those students in the back are not able to see the pictures very well and become disengaged. With a reading carpet, my entire class can come to me and listen to a good book and interact with the story.
Many of my students do not have a positive relationship with reading. If my students had a more inviting place to sit down and read a good book, I believe that they can learn to love reading and become life-long readers. I would use these materials so that my students have a comfortable and inviting place to read independently.
My students need a large carpet and four (4) bean bag chairs to create an inviting and comfortable place to read their favorite books!
