Learning how to measure accurately and seeing the difference between the metric and standard forms of measure is a skill students will use throughout their lives. New meter sticks for our sixth grade students will aide in future Project Based Learning (PBL) or STEM activities that will further student knowledge in the area of conversions, fractions, ratios and data collection. Measurement also provides a rich and meaningful context in the area of spatial conceptualization. By supplying students with appropriate tools in which they can apply in real-world situations, we will be creating a more authentic learning environment for the future workforce.
