It is tragic to see students repeatedly sit and stare at their paper or out the window when asked to complete their work independently. My students have a very short attention span and require lots of one-on-one or small group assistance. They also show symptoms of hyperactivity and lack of focus. Research shows that students with these symptoms can concentrate better when they’re allowed to fidget. The flexible seating and concrete objects can help students release all that bottled up energy as they work independently. With a high percentage of ELL (English Language Learners), students learn so much more with hands-on objects and lots of visuals. The color printer will provide lots of visuals for students to understand the academic language much easier. They are also motivated by being able to receive a toy from the treasure box that they do not have at home or have never even seen it in their life. They are such sweet, well-behaved, and hard-working students who deserve a little bit of joy when they finally filled up their sticker chart and get to go to the treasure box at the end of the day.
