My 5th grade students (soon to be 6th graders) need to learn to become organized and responsible for writing down their homework along with important dates. It is important to foster these attributes early on because they are required not only in their next grade level, but throughout their entire education and adult life. The planner will help my students become accountable for their learning in and outside of the classroom environment. They also need books such as Judy Moody to expand their classroom library. As they say, "the more you read, the more you know". Reading is especially important for my bilingual students, who day after day are becoming stronger and stronger in their second language. Having English books in our classroom library will only make them more confident when reading in this language; it is common to see lack of confidence in my students when they are reading in their second language.
