Many of my fifth grade students would like to try to complete the Sequoyah Challenge, however, the books are frequently already checked out of the library. By having multiple copies of these books in my class library, more students will have the opportunity to complete the challenge successfully! In addition to being able to complete the Sequoyah challenge, having multiple copies of quality literature in my classroom will foster literary conversations and enhance students' reading experiences. Just as adults have book clubs and enjoy talking about how what they've read has affected them, students, too, benefit from sharing literature with one another. Sharing books with one another makes reading a rich and meaningful process, enhances critical thinking and benefits students in many ways long after they leave my classroom.
