Many of my students, being the teens they are, do not love reading. I want to to entice my reluctant readers to pick up a book. Our school library often does not have the newer young adult books, the books students are relating to and talking about. I plan to use the books to enhance my classroom library and peak the interest of my students. Some of these books will be read aloud, while others will be book talked to gain interest for independent reading. “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies the man who never reads lives only one.” – George R.R. Martin. I want my students to live a thousand lives. Most of my students are economically disadvantaged and a great book can take them places they may never go otherwise. I want to grow a love of reading with the young adults I teach. If I can get my reluctant readers to love at least one book, it could be the gateway to reading more. Growing a love of reading is important because reading has the ability to change your life. I don't want reading to be a chore, I want it to be something looked forward to.
