If this project is funded, I will have a basis for a small classroom library. My students will have more books to choose from and as a class, we will build a positive environment around the concept of reading that will help them become life long readers. This year, my school has begun to implement a program the English department is calling AIR time (Accountable Independent Reading). Students are going to be required to continue reading all year round, while meeting certain page and book goals. They won't have to take any quizzes on these books, but we will engage with them in my class, through a series of discussions and responses. As a class, we will explore more and more different genres and topics, and help find books for every single student to enjoy reading.
