Our school is one of the most challenged schools in New York. We have over 4,000 students (three-quarters of whom come from low-income households), difficulties with violence in the area surrounding the school, and extremely limited resources with which to instruct our students. Despite this, each day we encounter students who enter our classrooms eager to learn and grow. They are wonderful, young adults, who play sports, are involved in clubs, and have responsibilities at part-time jobs and in their homes. Many of these students in my classes receive special education services, meaning that the more dynamic a lesson is, the more learning that will be accomplished.

About my class
