These materials are an opportunity for my students to connect with the struggles of youth around the world. This memoir will give my students the chance to reflect on the special challenges young girls in other areas face when trying to improve their lives, especially in regard to access to education. Showing young people the world through another lens is one of the most important tools a teacher has to create critical thinkers. When we face the reality that our own world and challenges aren't the limit of human experience, we are forced to open our minds and think about others in a new way. My students are at a school where diversity is limited, so it is incredibly important to expose them to different world views and help them think critically about the world. Reading about Malala is an inspiring way to get them thinking.
