As my first year of teaching music comes to an end, my students have fallen in love with my ukulele. In leiu of playing piano, I use a ukulele to accompany my students on a daily basis. Before I came to my school, few of my students knew what a ukulele was. When they saw a stringed instrument that was their size, it immediately peaked their curiosity and their questions began to flow. Now, my students yearn for ukuleles of their own. As a beginning teacher in a Title I school, having so many students interested in learning is a blessing. Seeing the excitement and passion in their eyes encourages me to seek out opportunities to provide for these underfunded children. Putting a ukulele in a child's hands provides more performance opportunities, like performing in a ukulele ensemble, which will ultimately lead to students accompanying themselves and becoming independent musicians. They will also learn the valuable lesson of responsibility while caring for their instruments. Please consider donating to these passionate young learners. They deserve much more than my school can provide.
