Students will be studying the concept of identity through an examination of famed artist Kehinde Wiley. Like Wiley, students will think about how they are seen in the world and paint a self-portrait with watercolor that reflects an aspect of their identity. We need watercolor paint and paper. Watercolor is a fluid medium that lends itself to quick studies so students can experiment with different poses and color shading options. Allowing students the opportunity to explore different aspects of their identity leads them to better understand themselves and each other. This better understanding leads to more empathy and connection between students and a more peaceful school community. These supplies will allow my 115 students to have enough materials to complete the project.
