Students will use the magnetic word builder system in both small group instruction and independent learning time. Color coded tiles will help students to organize and recognize word parts with ease. The system will be used to introduce phonics patterns as well as to have students review previously taught material. In small groups students will focus on building words as part of their guided reading groups. These groups will hone in on what the students need to learn next developmentally in their reading or will help to fill gaps in student learning. During independent learning time, students will have the opportunity to practice building words with the weekly phonics pattern. Student engagement will be increased due to the nature of the product. They must be active learners with these materials.
