In first grade, we do a large majority of our learning on the carpet. We come together every morning for a class meeting, we read stories on the carpet, do our math on the carpet. Almost every subject starts at the carpet! My students also love to spread out and read independently. This carpet will provide a comfortable space to dive into a good book. I want to create a space where everyone has enough elbow room to learn on the carpet! The past two years have been filled with carpet trouble. My first year teaching, I had no idea how much space 30 first graders take up, so I bought a rug that was way to small. Last year I tried to save money by buying a carpet remnant. The edges frayed, and it was a constant distraction to my students. This year I am looking for a carpet that will last for the years to come, and where my students can have a designated space to learn.
