All of my students suffer from emotional and behavioral disorders, and many have dealt with chaotic home lives and traumas that greatly affect their abilities to focus on a daily basis. In addition to being young, my students are distracted easily and greatly dislike having to sit at their desks all day. Flexible seating will allow them to feel more comfortable while reading, working on assignments, and listening to daily lessons. The balance ball seats and the wobble stools will allow students to sit at their desks in a comfortable way-right now, they only have chairs that don't allow for wiggles or movement. The beanbag seats, the giant pillow, and the floor seats will allow students to move around the room and sit in a comfortable spot while working independently. Lastly, the joki swing will definitely be a comfortable spot to read, as well as an incentive for students to grow in their literacy skills. My students have been given very little and have dealt with many hardships in their short lives, and they need to be provided with every opportunity possible to help them be successful. We are a Setting IV special education setting located in what used to be a warehouse. Because of our unique population, much of our funding has to go toward more staff in the building, instead of materials for our students such as seating options, books, and snacks. I am confident that this project will greatly enable my students to focus more on their work while also getting them excited about learning! With these seating options, my classroom will definitely be a more fun and exciting place to be!
