Many teachers, especially in urban schools like mine, are working with at-risk students with very few of the necessary resources to support them. This might seem minute but, at my current school, I have to pay out-of-pocket for items like construction paper, markers and hand sanitizer. Plus, I'm only allowed a certain number of copies each semester. I am a master at the art of formatting assignments when I should be spending time mastering my content. No teacher should have to worry about not being able to provide the most basic resources for their students. My story may not be the most unique or troubling but I do consider myself to be quite blessed. My current school also allows me to the freedom to create my own curriculum and I am given 100% support to grow and advance in my career. Unfortunately, the lack of funding continues to be an area of high concern.
