My players come from challenging environments where aggression is often the answer to many problems. Many come from high crime and poverty stricken areas. A lot of our students have issues related to anger and disrespect. Some of them have trouble interacting appropriately with one another, teachers, and administrators. These students have sometimes gone through some type of trauma, a divorce, or been the victims of abuse or neglect. Our district is 100% free lunch for all students. Basic necessities are not often a given. They often lack consistent parental support. Some are doing the best they can. Sports is where some of the kids get the chance to be successful. It teaches patience and determination. They get the support that they often are lacking. Participating in sports helps some students get into college and develop skills that will help them later in life.
