These materials will be for a very specific class called The Victorian Experience. The purpose of the class is to allow students the opportunity to be accustomed to a world of ideas that influences so much of the world they are a part of today. That world being the Victorian England world that they read so much about in Middle School and High School. In this class students will come face to face with a society and custom that seem foreign to them. They will read words by Jane Austen that might seem too difficult. In order to make it more accessible to them, they will accustom themselves to many of their traditions and ideas as a people and culture. In this class they will have the opportunity to play Cricket, a game that isn't played much in the United States, and will help them connect with other cultures. They will have the opportunity to learn basic stitching as they embroider their monogram in a handkerchief and will learn why a handkerchief was needed. The art supplies will allow them to paint a view of what they see in the world around them. Through these materials students will have the opportunity to connect to people, literature, and history that might seem ancient to them. They will be prepared to tackle difficult works of art, literature, and ideas as they progress in their education. These supplies will aid them by providing meaningful and unforgettable activities that will connect them to a history long past while also prepare them for their future as strong individuals who can try new things and connect with people and ideas that might seem too old or boring.
