Listening skills are a critical part of communication skills. Children need to focus on learning listening skills, especially at the elementary level. It has been said that listening has three parts: (1) hearing the speaker, (2) understanding what the speaker is saying and (3) making a judgment based on that understanding. With a listening center including a variety of book and CD sets, I could broaden my classroom's reading skills. The listening center includes a CD player and six headphones. It is a perfect setting for my classroom listening center. It is important for our students to become active listeners at a young age. These resources would help me do that with my Kindergartners. As a Kindergarten teacher, I know that listening to stories allows all students the opportunity to access age-appropriate texts, which hooks them into the world of reading. With the use of a listening center with book and CD sets, my Kindergarten students could engage with a wider variety of reading materials to reinforce listening skills. You can help us by donating to this project so my students have the opportunity to sharpen their listening skills and become lifelong readers.
