Have you ever felt like the whole world is against you? When you are a pre-teen, it is a common sentiment. For some of my students, it is every day life. Systems put in place to help them, they don't believe in. They need attention, but don't care how they get it. They desperately want to connect with others and find solace and confidence in their identity. My students are predominantly low-SES, ELL, minority, and have below grade-level reading levels. The typical classroom environment isn't the best for their growth. I'm hoping to change that.
