I work with special needs students who lack the ability to communicate verbally. I assess each student's unique abilities and challenges and provide them with iPads and augmentative communication (AAC) apps such as Proloquo2Go to give them a voice. These iPads and specially programmed apps provide a means for students to access their curriculum. They are now able to engage socially with their peers as well as use their iPads to enhance literacy and learning. These iPads are also programmed for home use so students can communicate with parents and siblings. All students need and deserve a voice and through the use of technology this goal can be achieved. I require a 512GB iPad Pro to download all of the various communication apps (there are over 300) so that I can match the abilities of each student with the specific AAC app that will meet their needs.
