I want to use flexible seating in my kindergarten classroom to create a safe, relaxed learning environment where creativity and imagination can develop. I want my sweet 5 and 6 year olds to choose where they'll learn best. They will be able to choose where they will sit while writing and during other learning opportunities throughout the day. Students that have difficulties sitting in a chair while working might choose a seat that "wobbles". Those that do their best work while standing might opt for a high table top, while others may decide to put pen to paper as they sit in a beanbag chair or comfy pillows on the floor. Help me ditch those desks...Let the mermaids swim, the super heroes fly and imaginations soar! Current research indicates that alternate seating uses up energy, increases engagement, improves posture, and allows increased oxygen flow to the brain. Although I can't control what happens in their lives outside of school, I can control their experiences during the school day. I hope to inspire and motivate our youngest students to become life long learners. Please help me create a safe, comfortable learning environment to meet the needs of all these busy, little bodies!
