Over the years as our Pre-K children play with our materials, they wear the materials out. For example, our puzzles have pieces missing, dramatic play items get lost or broken, play clothes get worn-out looking, and our science animal figures are not as bright as they used to be.
Our children use these materials to gain knowledge about everyday life. They learn the basic self help skills in dramatic play. For example, the dolls are used to help the students learn to care of people and how to take care of things. The role play outfits are for the students to express their interests in what they want to be when they grow up. All the blocks are are used for constructing things and using the various types gives the students the creativity in what they build. I have asked for science items such as shells and animals so the children can discover different types of environment and understand animals. We would like to have some real plants in our room so the hothouse would be a good exhibit for the children to see how things grow. Also, the math items and art items will help the children in using their skills in counting and creating different things to express their imagination in art. Throughout all the centers they use their critical thinking skills and knowledge to build and show us how things can be done. Having updated materials that are in good condition will ensure that all of my students will be successful in our classroom.
