My students need guided reading books that are at their lower levels yet look similar to those higher level books so they can feel the confidence and success they see their peers have. Students that read at the lower levels read about 8-10 books a day during independent reading in our workshop. That means we need a lot of books at those levels since they will stay at a level for at least a few weeks. They balk at the older "baby" looking books that mostly fill our classroom library. Help us engage them and set them up for success with some new books!
