Incorporating these materials into my classroom will allow my students to have easier transitions from one activity to the next, also allowing them to maintain focus on certain tasks for extended periods of time. Each student will be given a fidget pencil allowing them to have a consistent act of motion without distracting their peers. The pencils will be used during writing centers. These centers encourage students to create detailed stories, which can take various lengths of time. The fidget pencils will help maintain focus and direction. The chair bands will help the students move their feet quietly and at their own leisure. Chair bands will always be attached to the bottom of student chairs. Students will sit at their chairs for most of the day. They will sit with the chair bands during morning work, center time (writing, word word, etc...), and math. Lap desks will provide students the opportunity to move freely around the classroom in a spot that is most comfortable for them. The lap desks will be used when students are free reading allowing them to maintain proper reading posture and can be used during one-on-one time with myself and the classroom aide. Finally, the active learning stools will not only help with students who need to be in constant motion but will allow these young students to work on their balance inside the classroom. These chairs will be stationed at the guided reading table as well as in front of the computers. Students work in small groups with myself at the guided reading table to enhance their reading level and comprehension. The computers are used as a reward and during our centers. Students will be able to take an active part in their learning and feel success at an early age!
