“Teenagers want to read - if we let them.” ― Penny Kittle, Book Love: Developing Depth, Stamina, and Passion in Adolescent Readers. My students are more than their disabilities! I want my students to fall in love with reading again. I teach special education and by the time my students are with me in high school they have turned into reluctant readers. My students are diagnosed with a variety of disability areas that can make reading difficult. I believe with the right books, my kids can learn to love reading! After reading books written by authors such as Penny Kittle and Donalyn Miller, I am inspired to give my students daily independent reading time with little restriction. Please consider donating to our classroom library of popular, young adult literature books. We are working towards building our classroom library. Since I have been promoting independent reading, I have realized how necessary a relevant and interesting classroom library is in order to ensure student success.
