I teach a very unique class for kindergarten students with a variety of special needs. We are not given a specific reading curriculum to use, but teach to the general education reading standards. Over the past two years of teaching pre-developmental kindergarten I have created my own curriculum using age appropriate texts. Each week is focused on a new book and I have created visuals to correspond. This gives my students the hands-on experience they need to fully dive into the text. Each of the texts chosen teaches to a specific kindergarten standard or a weekly theme. I have taken two years to wisely choose books that my students enjoy and will relate to. It has been a process, but this book list is the curriculum that I will teach to during my time in Pre-Developmental Kindergarten. These books will not only help my 8 students this year, my 4 students next year, but all of the students going through this program.
