In our school, students are required to tell you exactly what they are learning and why. In the primary grades, this is a hard task with a younger vocabulary and comprehension level than that of the intermediate grades. A large dry-erase board mounted at the front of my room at the level of the students to be able to write, talk about, and express in their own words what they are learning would be beneficial in promoting responsibility for their learning and being able to express what they think is really happening in our classroom. This is putting ownership back on my students and challenging them to really think about their education and what they are gaining.
