The seating options that I have chosen are all very different and will provide students with the benefits of movement and comfort without becoming a distraction to themselves or the classroom. As a first year teacher, I have had the opportunity to explore many classrooms, observe students learn, take notes and decide on what type of environment I want for my first classroom. Just as every learner is unique in their learning types, they are also unique in their preferences on how they are most comfortable while learning. Giving students the opportunity to have flexible seating within the classroom allows them to take charge of their learning and make choices that will maximize their potential of growth. In my previous experiences in classrooms, I have witnessed how allowing students to make choices when it comes to their learning can positively impact their attitudes and progress. Some students may prefer to sit on stools by a table, while some may choose to sit on the floor by a table. Some may want to sit by a table but benefit from the ability to wobble back and forth, and some may want to lay on the floor with a pillow and a clipboard. They will all get a chance to try out all of the options throughout the school year, and change their places throughout the day. The games I have chosen to put in my classrooms are ones that the students most likely have never seen before. I want this to be a place of learning and growth not only academically, but in collaboration and community as well. These games allow for my students to interact with their peers, learn the graces of winning and losing, but most importantly, learning a life skill of communication and having fun!
