These materials will make a huge difference in my students learning because it will allow them to be more hands on and to read about topics they are interested in, not books from my out dated library. These new materials will provide students opportunities to practice basic reading skills, basic math skills, learn about current events, and finally master some money skills. I will utilize the newspaper in our morning meeting time to further develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Students helped shop for classroom materials they were interested in and chose books they wanted to read. Together we chose subjects they wanted to read about and skills that they wanted to improve upon from last year. The leveled readers will be used in guided and independent reading to help students improve reading skills and read about topics they are interested in. The reading passages ebooks, Scholastic Scope, phonics book, grammar book, and word study books, will enable me to provide students with direct instruction at their reading level. The math manipulatives, including the fraction kit and money manipulatives, will allow my students to learn in a more hands-on way and will make it more authentic for them. Overall, these materials will provide me as the teacher with relevant, interesting, concise resources that I can easily incorporate into my curriculum. Students will be more engaged in reading, writing, and math because these new resources are up to date, at their skill level, and are interesting to my students.
