Many of my students come from low-income families and do not get access to basic supplies such as pens, spiral notebooks, binders, pencils, paper, etc. Having these basic supplies given to them will bring great relief to not only them, but to their families as well. It is incredibly embarrassing for a student to show up with no school supplies on the first day of school. I would love to prevent that from happening to them. Having the school supplies that they need brings them one step closer to success in my classroom as readers and writers and gives them more confidence that they CAN do it.
