This year we are changing things up by implementing Morning Choice using hands-on materials such as Legos, puzzles, and games. Students need to start their day off strong and feeling confident. They need choices in their day to help foster independence and responsibility. For years, students have been bogged down with the traditional approach to morning work which requires completion of a worksheet as soon as they enter the classroom. Students will have up to 6 choices when they arrive to school. Choices will develop artistic abilities, problem solving skills, collaboration, technology, leadership, and turn taking skills. We need more hands-on materials and supplies to make this project completely effective. Students will benefit from problem solving and higher level thinking by working on puzzles and mazes. They will be able to collaborate with one another while they explore building with Legos. Books will provide opportunities to read to younger students and build leadership skills. Games will allow students to practice turn taking and communication to develop successful 21st century speaking and listening abilities.
