I teach physical education and health at my school. I teach over 750 students from Kinder-5th grade. I am a strong believer in hands-on teaching and learning. We have a wonderful community garden. It currently has twelve 4' X 8' beds and three 8' X 8' garden beds, and two 4' X 4 ' raised garden beds for our special needs students. Every student is exposed to the garden experience. They not only grow vegetables and fruits, they harvest them and then they are taken to the cafeteria, prepared, and served to the school community. Core subjects such as science, math and language arts are also taught within the garden. Recently, we added a cistern to our garden area to teach the students about water conservation. We are $1,000.00 short on funds. We need additional supplies to complete our drip line irrigation system.
