Flexible seating is paramount to student-centered learning. With the option to choose, students become problem solvers without even knowing they are putting their brain to work. When a student has the opportunity to move, they increase their ability to learn. Research says "Simple in-class activities can boost performance. Studies suggest that children who participate in short bouts of physical activity within the classroom have more on-task behavior, with the best improvement seen in students who are least on-task initially" (Matthew T. Mahar, et al). We are also concerned with less teacher control and placing more emphasis on students taking more ownership of their learning. Flexible seating provides scholars to take charge of where and how they learn best. We will use these seating options every day. Scholars will not be assigned a seat and will be allowed to make changes as they see fit. This is part of scholars taking ownership of their education.
