Movement is needed in student's learning time in order for children to keep their mind focused, and their attention engaged. Although some students require more movement in their day than others, all students benefit from having active minutes in their day. There are many different tools out in the education world that help students get the movement they require, from exercise balls to wobbly stools. With that in mind, there are many reasons why Bouncy Bands were chosen as the tool to be incorporated into the sixth grade homeroom classroom. Bouncy Bands can be easily incorporated into a classroom, providing students who need movement in their learning to have just that. Bouncy bands easily attach to the chairs already in the classroom, requiring a cheaper alternative to other movement seating. Students can use the bands if it helps them, or they can choose to keep their feet on the floor if fidgeting does not help them learn. Bouncy Bands are also silent, where other movement or fidgeting devices can make noise and disrupt the student using them, and the neighbors around them. Bouncy Bands are also being utilized in other middle school classrooms in the school. Students from these classroom are taught in the sixth grade homeroom classroom, and sixth graders are taught in classroom where Bouncy Bands are already in use. These will allow all students to have consistent access to a movement option in all their classes. Having a way for their bodies to be active during a class period will help students who need movement focus better. With better focus, students will have a better chance to listen to instruction, understand the material, and complete their work. Students will be given what they need to succeed in school.
