My students need thirty-six chairs for appropriate seating in our Foreign Language classroom. Many of our students are exhausted working long hours after school to help their families. Improper seating when trying to focus makes things worse.
Appropriate seating allows our students to feel ready to learn and valued. It also gives them a seat to see an entire world that they may not otherwise experience in our rural, under-developed county.
In our rural Appalachian region, students face a plethora of obstacles. The vast majority feel much despair concerning the small things most of us take for granted such as food, clothing and a stable home life. The area, overall, suffers from immense socio-economical adversities. Educating young adults in this environment can be a formidable task, but the hearts of our students are so deserving!
We cannot control outside circumstances, but we can positively impact the school day!
Seating availability is difficult. Many of our school desks have been repaired many times. Tables have been purchased, but there is simply no money to purchase seating.
