I teach the English Learners, students who speak another language at home and are learning English as their second language. I work with another EL teacher and together we work with all the EL students in a K-5 building. Last year we had about 50 students. It is absolutely amazing to watch them learn and grow in a second language at such a young age. Some of my Kindergarten students last year had never been to school and came from a Spanish speaking home. By the end of the year I was crying as I read the detailed sentences they could write in their journal. Learning a second language is not an easy task. Not only are these students mastering another language, they are trying to master skills in multiple subjects such as math and social studies - all in their second language. I enjoy watching them learn and grow and am thankful for the opportunity to assist them on their journey.
