My students love a good story, and these books will gift them the opportunity to delve into a story unlike anyone else's in the classroom. During our initial reading assessments at the beginning of the year, the students shared what they would personally like to read this year. Each book is chosen based on how they answered, and the project follows through on the promise made to them as individuals and as a class that while our reading abilities may look different, our love for reading does not. Gifting my students with their own books, many of which lie outside the literacy curriculum, will give them a sense of ownership over their own reading experience. This is also a way to celebrate our reading journeys this holiday season!
