I teach at San Francisco International High School, a high school for recent immigrants. Our students come to us from over 30 countries! 98% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch and 100% are English Learners. SFIHS has 490 students who speak more than a dozen languages. Most of our students are very recent arrivals to the U.S. Approximately 35% come to us with interrupted formal education and have been in refugee camps, detention centers, or are coming from countries that are not able to offer regular and affordable schooling. Each student has their own unique story of struggle that has brought them to the U.S. They are truly dreamers; they arrive with resilience, dedication, and hope for a better future.
