I work with students who have various disabilities, including cognitive delays, ADHD, and learning disabilities. One of the best ways to reach them is through television and DVD media. In fact, research has shown that instruction that uses television as a teaching tool can increase attention and retention. So, after we work on a concept in class -- letter sounds, sight words, addition, subtraction, and more -- I videotape myself teaching a review lesson and use it to review and reteach. I also use DVDs of basic skills and story books to introduce and review literature and concepts with them.
