83% of our students are at or below the poverty level. My students are in urban setting. I have students from single parent homes, and some even live with relatives. They are students that get temporarily placed in foster homes, as well as those considered homeless. In many ways my students have had to mature well before most adolescents. Some take care of siblings after school because their parents need the help and can not afford any other options. Our Academy is in the top 10 poorest zip codes in the United States, giving us a extremely low tax base.
