I am striving to create students who have a strong number sense. This means students have a sense of what numbers mean, understands their relationship to one another, are able to perform mental math, understands symbolic representations, and can use those numbers in real world situations, etc. This strong understanding is so essential in their elementary years, so moving forward they are able to excel in upper grades and into adulthood.
